Erika Bean. The 5-8 point guard has 61 starts under her belt as a Ute and has been a dominant passer in the Pac-12 and the nation. She has ranked in the top-five in assists in the conference in back-to-back seasons.
Q: How did your interest in basketball begin?
A: I was a cheerleader at one of my church basketball leagues and all the older people were playing basketball and instead of cheerleading on the sidelines, I really wanted to play, but I was too young. As a result, my parents decided to put me into a youth basketball league and I haven't looked back since.
Q: What is your favorite part about playing basketball?
A: My favorite part about playing basketball is the competitiveness of the sport, the many relationships I have developed, and all the opportunities basketball has given me.
Q: What made you choose Utah?
A: I was drawn to Utah because of the great opportunity to receive an elite education and play in a tremendous conference. Along with that, I was welcomed by an amazing group of girls and coaching staff in which I knew I would experience a home away from home.
Q: What are some of your favorite things to do outside of basketball?
A: Photography, hiking, watching Hulu, adventures!
Q: What is the best piece of advice you've been given?
A: "Everything you need is already inside of you!"
Q: Who is your biggest influence in life on and off the court and why?
A: My parents! They have given me the world. They are the reason for who I am and where I am today. I really can't thank them enough for all they have done for me.
Q: What do you think are some keys to success when it comes to being a college athlete?
A: As a college athlete it is important to be disciplined but also have fun. It is important to be disciplined with your school work and studies as well as your athletic performance. With that being said, it is also important to balance yourself with things outside of academics and sports to sustain you mentally and physically.
Q: If you could play and go pro in any other sport, what would it be and why?
A: Track and Field. I've always looked up to the USA women's track runners. When the Olympics come around track and field is all I care about. There are some amazing athletes in the sport.
Q: What are you looking forward to most this season?
A: With it being my senior year, I am looking forward to everything. It is my final year as a student-athlete and I want to enjoy every moment and really take it all in!
Q: What is your favorite part about being on the basketball team at Utah so far?
A: My favorite part about being on the basketball team has been all the amazing teammates I have gotten to meet and the wonderful memories I have created with them over the years.
Q: Where is your favorite place to eat in Salt Lake City?
A: Park Cafe.
Q: If you could have a super power, what would it be?
A: Shape shift.
Q: Do you have any hidden talents?
A: I can play the drums a little.
Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: Safe Haven or the Taken Series.
Q: What is a holiday that doesn't exist that you would like to create?
A: National Sleep Day in which everyone has the day off from all other activities and the day is devoted simply to sleeping.
Q: What did you want to be growing up?
A: A Spy.
Q: If you could take three things with you to a desert island, what would they be?
A: A camera, a friend, and a boat.
Q: If you could describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
A: Fun, chill, sleepy.
Q: What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
A: Anything Sorbet.
Q: If you could time travel, where and when would you go?
A: I would time travel to see my parents entire childhood.
