Niyah Becker. The 6-2, left-handed shooter comes to Utah from Winnipeg, Manitoba where she was named the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association Defensive Player of the Year in 2018. She has also been active for Team Canada, playing in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.
Q: How did your interest in basketball begin?
A: I always played around with basketball because my dad played, but when I was eight I joined my first community club team.
Q: What is your favorite part about playing basketball?
A: The team aspect. Playing off each other and finding people for great looks.
Q: What made you choose Utah?
A: I loved the program and the location and that they were in a great conference.
Q: What are some of your favorite things to do outside of basketball?
A: Read, spend time with friends, shop, outdoor activities.
Q: What is the best piece of advice you've been given?
A: Be yourself and do your best.
Q: Who is your biggest influence in life on and off the court and why?
A: My family off the court because they are the people that know me best and are the ones I can talk to and know they are being honest and telling it to me straight. On court is my dad because he's been my coach since I was little and has played basketball himself.
Q: What do you think are some keys to success when it comes to being a college athlete?
A: Time management, having fun, giving your best on everything.
Q: If you could play and go pro in any other sport, what would it be and why?
A: Volleyball or high jump in track because I did both when I was younger and they've always been fun sports to me.
Q: What are you looking forward to most this season?
A: Pac-12 Conference play!
Q: What is your favorite part about being on the basketball team at Utah so far?
A: Meeting the team and getting to play with them.
Q: Where is your favorite place to eat in Salt Lake City?
A: The football practice facility.
Q: If you could have a super power, what would it be?
A: Understand and speak every language fluently.
Q: Do you have any hidden talents?
A: Unfortunately no.
Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: I love too many movies to have a favorite but a recent favorite is "Age of Adeline" or other Blake Lively movies.
Q: What is a holiday that doesn't exist that you would like to create?
A: Basketball Day.
Q: What did you want to be growing up?
A: The first girl in the NBA.
Q: If you could take three things with you to a desert island, what would they be?
A: Water/food, a friend, and my phone.
Q: If you could describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
A: Friendly, sarcastic, fun loving.
Q: What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
A: Vanilla or cookie dough.
Q: If you could time travel, where and when would you go?
A: Ancient times, to see what it was like.
