Dre'Una Edwards. The two-time Southwest League Player of the Year from Las Vegas joins the Utes this season as a 6-2 power forward.
Q: How did your interest in basketball begin?
A: I'm from a basketball family, so it runs in my blood.
Q: What is your favorite part about playing basketball?
A: I love how you get to interact with new teammates and coaches on and off the court. I also love the competitiveness within the sport and how motivated and driven you have to be to be able to compete at high levels.
Q: What made you choose Utah?
A: Everything from the scenery to my teammates. I love the mountains and how close they are. I love my teammates, the coaches and the entire women's basketball staff. There is so much support and so many resources here, I could not pass up the opportunity. I also love how involved the city is when it comes to sports, hint the U on the mountain.
Q: What are some of your favorite things to do outside of basketball?
A: I love to watch Netflix, sleep, and hang out and meet new people. I also like to write poems.
Q: What is the best piece of advice you've been given?
A: Always stay true to yourself no matter what.
Q: Who is your biggest influence in life on and off the court and why?
A: My older brother Andre. He has influenced me that no matter what path you take or how hard your journey is, do not give up and work hard to achieve what you want.
Q: What do you think are some keys to success when it comes to being a college athlete?
A: Be prepared to work hard, not only on the court but also in the classroom. Also being able to be open minded to try new things.
Q: If you could play and go pro in any other sport, what would it be and why?
A: Track is the second most competitive sport to me, so I would definitely go pro for track because it is super fun to race against other people.
Q: What are you looking forward to most this season?
A: I am looking forward to playing with some great teammates, and being able to contribute what I can for my team during games, practices and even in the classroom.
Q: What is your favorite part about being on the basketball team at Utah so far?
A: My favorite part is being able to have fun while doing it. Maybe not exactly having fun during the practice, but definitely after there is a bunch of great laughs going on.
Q: Where is your favorite place to eat in Salt Lake City?
A: The Football Facility.
Q: If you could have a super power, what would it be?
A: Invisibility.
Q: Do you have any hidden talents?
A: Poem writing.
Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: Love and Basketball.
Q: What is a holiday that doesn't exist that you would like to create?
A: National Netflix Day.
Q: What did you want to be growing up?
A: A lawyer.
Q: If you could take three things with you to a desert island, what would they be?
A: A blanket, food and someone to go with me
Q: If you could describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
A: Outgoing, Adventurous, Goat.
Q: What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
A: Cookies and cream or Butter Pecan
Q: If you could time travel, where and when would you go?
A: I would travel back to the times when Jesse Owens was racing against the Nazis's in front of Hitler in the summer Olympics of year 1936.
