The University of Utah women's basketball team is set to tip off the 2019-20 season against Westminster on Thursday, Oct. 31 for its only exhibition game of the year. The game will start at 11 a.m. MT in the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
With just 12 days to go before Utah's exhibition game, the atmosphere around the program is electric due to the new faces ready to make an impact for the team. Lola Pendande, a 6-4 forward from Almeria, Spain, comes to Utah after being named the John R. Wooden Southern California High School Player of the Year in 2018. She most recently played for Barca CBS in Spain before playing for the Spain National Team at the FIBA U19 Women's World Cup.
Q: What is your earliest memory of basketball and what was special about that moment?
A: "Winning the gold medal in the European Championship in 2016 against Germany. It's special because we had played them before twice and they had beaten us, so winning in the final was awesome."
Q: What was it like growing up in your hometown? Any specific memories that stand out?
A: " It was great because I got to be friends with people similar to me and different people and also learned a lot about different cultures because of that."
 Q: How has your family influenced you on and off the court?
A: "Staying with me and supporting me in difficult times. Enjoying the good times even when they're not with me."
 Q: Who would you say you take after most in your family and why?
A: "My Mom. She's my biggest support, she's the reason I'm not giving up on anything I'm doing even though I would think about it or maybe almost did it multiple times."
Q: What about the sport of basketball made you fall in love with it?
A: "Other than the great feeling of winning, meeting people that become family along the way."
 Q: What is your dream job?
A: "To be an attorney because I love learning about what is right and wrong and help people knowing where they stand in the world. I want to help them know their rights and defend them as they should."
Q: What is something people might not know about you?
A: "A hidden talent would be I'm pretty good at playing badminton and I play with my right hand."
 Q: What about the University of Utah made you want to continue your career here?
A: " Basketball and the academic support from the advisors and coaches."
Q: What has been your favorite part about playing basketball at Utah so far?
A: "Every practice."
