SALT LAKE CITY – With three seniors on the 2019-20 Utah women's basketball roster, the Utes have the appearance of being a young team. But with five sophomores on the squad that have already logged over 3,000 combined minutes in their collegiate careers, the Utes will be returning five tenacious athletes ready for more.
Head coach Lynne Roberts and the Utes bring back Pac-12 All-Freshman team members Dru Gylten and Andrea Torres, along with Niyah Becker with all three playing in all 30 games last season. Utah fans will also see the return of redshirt sophomore Maurane Corbin, who sat out last season due to injury, along with the addition of junior college transfer Aubri Noti.
The Utah sophomore class is comprised of student-athletes from Quebec, Manitoba, South Dakota and Colorado, all coming to Salt Lake City for the same purpose. Four of the five sophomores on this year's squad were a part of Utah's 20-win season last year with the Utes finishing in sixth place in the Pac-12, their highest finish since joining the conference.

Earned Pac-12 All-Freshman honorable mention after playing in all 30 games in 2018-19, starting four … put up 5.7 points and 3.0 rebounds per game, including scoring 7.1 points per game during the conference season … scored a career high 18 points at Colorado, shooting 7-of-11 from the floor and 4-of-7 from the three to earn Pac-12 Freshman of the Week … had a career best seven rebounds against USC … has also played with Team Canada at the FIBA World Cup and FIBA Americas as in 2016 and 2017.
"Andy is a smart, savvy player that can shoot from half court for percentage," Roberts said. "We need her to be a more consistent rebounder and defender, but if she can do those two things with her offense that is just getting better and better, then that's really good for us."

Pac-12 All-Freshman first team by both the coaches and the media after starting all 30 games in 2018-19 … she was a two-time Pac-12 Freshman of the Week and also earned Pac-12 All-Academic second-team … averaged 31.8 minutes, 8.8 points, 5.5 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game … ranked fourth in the Pac-12 (first among freshmen) and 27th nationally in assists per game (5.5) … scored in double digits in 10 games and had five or more assists in 20 of Utah's 30 games … scored a career high 24 points on 7-of-9 shooting along with 8-of-8 from the free throw line against USC … career high 11 assists against Seattle U.
"I think Dru is going to be the leader of the pack in that sophomore group because she has played so many minutes," Roberts said. "She is our best passer and toughest kid. We are going to rely on her and her experience even though she is just a sophomore."
#14 Niyah Becker // 6-2, W // Winnipeg, Manitoba
Left-handed shooter with length that played in all 30 games as a true freshman in 2018-19 … averaged 11.4 minutes, 2.2 rebounds and 3.3 points per game … put up a career high 11 points against Long Beach State, shooting 50-percent from the floor while adding five boards and a block … recorded nine points and six rebounds at Nevada … put together a complete game against Washington with eight points, five rebounds and two assists … played for Team Canada this summer at the FIBA World Cup … has also played for the Canadian National Team at the FIBA World Championships and the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
"That freshman to sophomore year is so critical and Niyah looks fantastic after this offseason," Roberts said. "Her shot looks good and I am hopeful she can have that breakout season. If she continues on the trajectory that she has been on the last four or five months, it is going to happen."
#21 Maurane Corbin // 6-5, F // Saint-Bruno, Quebec
Saw valuable minutes as a true freshman in 2017-18 before having to sit out last season due to injury … lengthy defender that is an efficient shooter when she has the ball … played in 31 games in 2017-18, starting one … averaged 8.8 minutes, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 points per game … shot 52-percent from the floor in 2017-18 … grabbed a career-high eight rebounds at Weber State … scored six points in back-to-back games against Washington and Washington State.
"An ACL is every basketball players' nightmare, however often times it becomes a blessing in disguise," Roberts said. "Maurane sat out last year and kind of figured things out and got confident. She got herself physically to a place she had never been. She is fit, strong and confident."
#34 Aubri Noti // 6-1, F // Colorado Springs, Colo.
Played the 2018-19 season for Iowa Western Community College where she earned first-team all-region in 2019 … started all 32 games as a redshirt freshman last season, averaging 10.9 points and 9.5 rebounds per game … scored in double digits in 20 games with 10 double-doubles … ranked 18th nationally in defensive rebounds per game (6.5) … career high 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting against Moberly Area CC … career best 18 rebounds against Jefferson College.
"We will have three years with Aubri, so this will be a good year for her to develop," Roberts said. "She plays hard, rebounds well, and is kind of one of those dirty work players. She learns things quickly, which you never know with transfers, but she picks things up quickly."
The Utes will tip off the 2019-20 season on Thursday, Oct. 31 against Westminster College for their only exhibition game of the year. The game will start at 11 a.m. MT in the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
