SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah women's basketball team put together a balanced attack against the Eastern Washington Eagles tonight in the Jon M. Huntsman Center, coming away with an 87-49 win to improve to 1-3 this season.
Utah shot 54-percent from the floor tonight with three players scoring in double-digits. The Utes were dominant in the paint tonight, outscoring Eastern Washington 46-16, also out-rebounding the Eagles 47-28.
"We just played a lot better tonight," head coach
Lynne Roberts said. "I thought we played more cohesive on both sides of the ball. It definitely wasn't a perfect game, but I was proud of our team for focusing on the things that we wanted to focus on in both sides. I thought every group that came in brought something and picked it up a little bit in a different way."
"Offensively, I thought there was progress in our shot selection. People gave up shots to create something for someone else and that is growth. It shows in our turnovers, it shows in our shooting percentage, that is why it matters. Things to work on, things to clean up, but for the most part I thought we controlled the game and never really relaxed."
Niyah Becker was electric from start to finish tonight, racking up a career-high 17 points and 10 rebounds for her first-career double-double.
Brynna Maxwell added 12 points and five rebounds while
Ola Makurat shot 5-for-6 from the floor for 10 points to round out Utah's double-digit scorers.

The Utes finished the quarter shooting 55-percent from the floor with six different players contributing two or more points.

Becker scored eight of her 17 points in the third quarter, including scoring six straight as part of an 8-0 run that gave Utah a 61-27 lead 4:03 on the clock. The Utes held the Eagles to just three made field goals in the quarter and 20-percent shooting (3-of-15), taking a 33-point lead into the fourth and final quarter of the game.
The Utes continued to cause havoc on both sides of the ball in the fourth quarter with Maxwell putting up six of her 12 points in the quarter, going 2-for-4 from the arc. The game ended with Becker scoring her 17th points and grabbing her 10
