IOWA CITY, Iowa –In their final road match of the weekend, the University of Utah men's tennis team was unable to come away with a victory against the University of Iowa, falling 5-2 to the Hawkeyes. With this loss, the Utes now move to 6-3 overall on the season.
The Utes fell behind early, as they were unable to earn the doubles point against Iowa. On court No. 1
Randy Cory and
Russell Benkaim fell short to Kareem Allaf and Jonas Larsen, with a final score of 6-3.
David Micevski and
Slava Shainyan were then also unable to come away with a win, as they dropped their match to Will Davies and Oliver Okonkwo, 6-3, at the No. 2 position.
Two Utes were able to notch victories in singles play, starting with
Dan Little at the No. 1 spot, as he defeated 89
thranked Kareem Allaf with a final score of 6-1, 6-3. The second win of the day came from
Mathias Gavelin on the No. 6 court, knocking off Piotr Simentana, 6-4, 6-1. The Utes then fell short in competitive matches on courts 5,4,3, and 2, as the Hawkeyes came away with the 5-2 win.
The Utah men's tennis team will be back in action next weekend for two home matches at the Eccles Tennis Center on Sunday, February 17
th. The Utes will first be taking on the University of New Mexico that day at 10am MT, followed by a match against Idaho State at 3pm MT, to wrap up action for the weekend.
