SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah women's basketball head coach
Lynne Roberts announced the hiring of
Becca Jonas and
Ethan McIlhargey today, rounding out the Utes' 2019-20 staff.Â
"Hiring staff members is one of the most critical things we do in college athletics," Roberts said. "I am so excited about these two joining our family and I know they will help us continue to move the needle and climb in the Pac-12."
Jonas will serve as Utah's creative director for marketing and recruiting while McIlhargey will be the video coordinator. The duo will join the current staff of Roberts, associate head coach
Gavin Petersen, assistant coaches
Danyelle Snelgro and
Joanna Reitz, director of administration and operations
Kendall Rodriguez, director of sports performance
Randy Towner, athletic trainer
Claire Donskey and graduate assistant
Tanaeya BoClair.Â
Jonas comes to Utah after playing five seasons with the Drake Bulldogs in Des Moines, Iowa, recently graduating with a Masters in communication leadership and a degree in digital media production. Jonas, a 6-2 forward, has been integral in reshaping Drake women's basketball, helping them to NCAA Tournament appearances in three of the last five seasons.Â
Despite battling injuries during her time with the Bulldogs, Jonas was a mainstay in the Missouri Valley Conference on and off the court. She is a two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete team selection and earned all-conference honorable mention and MVC All-Freshman team in 2015.Â
"Becca is joining us after a tremendously successful academic and playing career at Drake University," Roberts said. "She has been a part of a nationally known and respected program and knows what a great program culture looks like. Becca is young, bright, and motivated to bring some new ideas and creativity to our program. We are really lucky to have her here at the U."
McIlhargey joins the Utes after a year at Tennessee Tech where he served as the director of operations for their women's basketball program. In 2018-19, the Golden Eagles came away with their highest win total since 2011, finishing the season 22-11 to record the third-largest win increase in NCAA Division I this past season.Â
Prior to his stint at TTU, McIlhargey spent a season as the video coordinator at Stephen F. Austin. McIlhargey graduated from the University of Idaho in 2017 with a degree in general studies while serving as a student assistant for the women's basketball program for five seasons, seeing the Vandals earn three NCAA Tournament berths.Â
"Everyone that we spoke to about Ethan seemed to rave about how fantastic he is and what an asset he would be for our program," Roberts said. "He already has great experience in this video coordinator position, is eager to learn and grow in the profession, and I know he will bring some great new ideas and enthusiasm to our program."
