Ola Makurat played in 25 games with eight starts in 2019-20 as a redshirt junior and is ready to make a stamp on her senior season in 2020-21. She averaged 12.3 minutes, 2.8 rebounds and 3.7 points per game throughout the season, including 6.2 points per game in non-conference play.
UtahUtes.com chatted with Makurat about why she loves Utah, what her favorite road trip from last season was and what she is studying at the U.
Q: What was your favorite part about playing in the Pac-12 last season?
A: My favorite part about playing in the Pac-12 last season was the high-level competition every week.
Q: What was your favorite road trip last season and why?
A: The road trip to Hawaii was one for the books. Not only did we play the game we love, but also we were able to visit that beautiful state.
Q: What was it about the U. that made you want to finish your collegiate career here?
A: I heard that home is where your heart is, and although I have left my heart in many places, Utah is very special to me, and it has that special place in my heart. I cannot imagine myself finishing my collegiate carrier anywhere else. I belong here.
Q: What does it mean to you to be a senior this year and what do you hope to accomplish?
A: From my senior perspective, the most important is my team, and the goal is to win. I can't wait to be on the floor together and compete. This season is very special to me, and I am getting excited about seeing the whole team finally together.
Q: What has it been like having another player from Poland on the team?
A: I love Zuza, and I could not be happier to have her here. It has been great to have a person on the team from my country and speak some polish.
Q: Who is your favorite professional basketball player and why?
A: My favorite professional basketball players are Elena Delle Donne and Kevin Durant. Despite the height, both of them are very versatile and have a great game in and out.
Q: What has been your favorite part about living in Utah?
A: I have met some great people in Utah, and living here shifted my perspective. It feels like home, and I love the mountains and outdoor activities. I think Utah's natural beauty keeps many secrets, and it is so fun to go and explore.
Q: What are you studying at the U. and why?
A: I am majoring in Sociology and minoring in Psychology. I was always very interested in understanding human behavior and all those mental processes; I would love to work with people.
Q: What is your favorite part about playing at the U. so far?Â
A: My favorite part about playing at the U so far is my team and the atmosphere we have here. We have so much fun. We have created many memories that will last forever. And this year, I appreciate it even more than usual.
