SAN FRANCISCO – Utah women's basketball sharp-shooter
Brynna Maxwell has been named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, announced today by the league office.
In her return to her home state of Washington, Maxwell was spectacular, averaging 19.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in Utah's sweep of Washington and Washington State. She knocked down a combined six three pointers between the two games and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line this past weekend, also grabbing two steals in both games.
In front of over 100 hometown fans that came to Seattle to see her, Maxwell scored 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor, knocking down 50-percent of her shots from the arc (2-4) in Utah's win over Washington. She also tied her career-high in rebounds against the Huskies with seven.
Against Washington State, Maxwell shot 77-percent from the floor (7-9) that included going 4-for-5 from the three-point line for 22 points. It was her fourth 20-point outing this season, with all four coming away from the Huntsman Center with the Gig Harbor, Wash., native averaging 15.7 points per game on the road.
Maxwell leads the Pac-12 in three-pointers made (62) and three-point percentage (.446), also ranking 28
th and 10
th overall in Division I women's basketball. She also ranks first nationally among freshmen in three-point percentage and is third in three-pointers made.
Maxwell and the Utes return to action this Friday, Feb. 14 against Stanford. The game is set for a 7 p.m. MT tip in the Jon M. Huntsman Center and will be Utah's Valentine's Day game with fans wearing pink or red receiving free admission.
