SAN FRANCISCO – Utah women's basketball freshmen Brynna Maxwell and Lola Pendande were honored today by the Pac-12 after the all-conference teams were announced with Maxwell highlighting Utah's selections.
Maxwell was named to the Pac-12 All-Conference Honorable Mention squad along with earning first-team All-Freshman. It is the first time since the Utes joined the conference that a true freshman has earned a spot on the all-conference team and the first time overall since 2011 when Michelle Plouffe earned second-team All-MWC as a freshman.
Pendande joins Maxwell on the All-Freshman team, earning honorable mention status. Maxwell and Pendande are Utah's seventh and eighth selections to the Pac-12 All-Freshman team since joining the league with the Utes having six selections to the All-Freshman teams in the Lynne Roberts era.
Maxwell, who is the eighth all-conference team selection for the Utes since Roberts took over in 2015-16, leads the team in scoring (13.0), three-point percentage (.452) and three-pointers made (75). She leads the Pac-12 this season in three-pointers made (75) and three-pointers per game (2.59), also leading the league while ranking No. 8 nationally in three-point percentage (.452). Her 75 made threes ranks second among freshmen nationally and is the most by a Ute since 2010-11.
Maxwell leads the Utes in 20-point games this season, recording five that included four on the road. One of her 20-point games came during her return home to the state of Washington, scoring 22 points at Washington State. She earned Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for her performances against the Washington schools, averaging 19.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in Utah's two wins.
Pendande has been a consistent threat for the Utes on both sides of the ball this season, leading the team in field goal percentage (.572), rebounds (165) and blocked shots (34). The Almeria, Spain, native is tied for fifth in the Pac-12 in total blocks (34) and blocks per game (1.21).
