Junior
Tristan Mandur competed in seven events during the shortened 2019-20 season, totaling 1,514 strokes in 21 rounds, averaging 72.1 strokes per round (third on the team). He recorded 11 rounds of par or better with his highest finish coming at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, tying for ninth overall while shooting a season-low 2-under (70-70-74=214).
As a sophomore, he saw action in 11 events, ranking second on the team with 73.1 strokes per round. He carded 12 rounds of par or better and had his best collegiate outing at the Bandon Dunes Championship. He shot even over three rounds to finish tied for third (72-69-75=216).
Mandur competed in all 11 events as a true freshman, carding 17 rounds of par or better to finish among the top-20 in four different events. He came to Utah from Mill Bay, British Columbia, competing on the 2016 British Columbia Junior Championship squad and the 2016 third-place Junior America's Cup team.
Q: What is your earliest memory of golf and what was special about that moment?
A: My Earliest memory would be hitting golf balls in my back yard into a net. It started with watching my dad do it, and it motivated me to hit it like him.
Q: What was it like growing up in your hometown? Any specific memories that stand out?
A: It was awesome growing up in my hometown of Mill Bay. A memory that stands out to me is biking with my friends.
Q: How has your family influenced you on and off the course?
A: They have influenced me by supporting and believing in me on and off the course.
Q: Who would you say you take after most in your family and why?
A: I would say it is a combination between my dad's competitiveness, and my mom's focus.
Q: What about the sport of golf made you fall in love with it?
A: The part of making birdies, and the strategic part of it. To play golf as if it was a chess game.
Q: What goals do you have for yourself after you graduate college?
A: My goals are to turn pro, and see where it goes from there.
Q: What is something people might not know about you?
A: Something people might know about me is that I can solve a Rubik's cube in under 45 seconds.
Q: What about the University of Utah made you want to continue your career here?
A: The coaching staff, and the players. It felt like it would be a great stepping-stone to my game and would help improve my golf game.
Q: What has been your favorite part about playing golf at Utah so far?
A: My favorite part is being able to play all the sweet courses in the area, including Glenwild in Park City.
