The Utes junior is 1-of-20 players named to the Preseason Watch List
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced the 2023 Katrina McClain Award Watch List, and the University of Utah's Alissa Pili was 1-of-20 players named to the watch list.Â

Named after the two-time All-American and 1987 National Player of the Year, the annual award, in its sixth year, recognizes the top power forwards in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates. To view the complete list, click here.Â

"Incredibly happy for Alissa to be on the watch list for this amazing award," head coach Lynne Roberts stated. "Everyone in the Pac-12 knows how lethal Alissa can be on the court. She has worked so hard since she's been at Utah and I'm beyond excited for her to show this best version of herself this season."

Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting, presented by Dell Technologies, in each of the three rounds starting Friday, Oct. 21. In late January, the watch list of 20 players for the 2023 Katrina McClain Award will be narrowed to 10, and then in late February to just five. In March, the five finalists will be presented to McClain and the Hall of Fame's selection committee, where a winner will be selected.Â

Pili, a 6-2 forward, enters her first year at Utah after playing in 63 career games with 58 starts at the University of Southern California. The Anchorage, Alaska native earned All-Pac-12 honors over her first two seasons at USC. She was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year following the 2019-20 season. Over her 63 games at USC, Pili averaged 12.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. She shot 45 percent from the floor. She has scored 795 points in her career.

During the 2021-22 season, Pili appeared in 19 games while making 18 starts and averaged 7.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. She scored a season-high 15 points vs. Seton Hall last season.Â

Before her sophomore season, Pili was named to the Naismith Trophy and Katrina McClain Award Preseason Watch Lists. She earned All-Pac-12 honorable mention honors during USC's 2021-22 season.Â

As a freshman, she earned Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, All-Pac-12 First Team, and All-Freshmen team honors. She led the Trojans in scoring (16.3 ppg), rebounding (8.0 rpg), and had 11 double-doubles. By seasons end of her freshman season, she ranked in the nation's top 100 in five statistical categories — final points (504), field-goal percentage (51.1%), double-doubles (11), free throws made (109) and field goals made (190).
