ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – The No.4 Utah women's basketball team traveled to below freezing temperatures to senior
Alissa Pili's hometown of Anchorage, Alaska to participate in the Great Alaska Shootout and picked up a 101-57 win over Alaska Anchorage.
Utah started the game on a 9-2 run. It was a low energy start for the Utes as UAA brought the score within two points with six minutes left in the first quarter. Utah pulled ahead with an 11-2 run and held the Seawolves scoreless for two minutes. The Utes ended the first quarter with a 32-18 lead.
Utah controlled the second quarter as the Utes started out with a 10-0 run. The Utes outscored the Seawolves 24-10 in the second quarter and pulled out for a 56-28 lead at the half.
The Utes continued the charge in the second half pulling out to a 37-point lead at the end of the third quarter. Utah then captured a 40 point lead with just over two minutes remaining in the game thanks to a pair of free throws made by freshman Reese Ross. Utah ended the game with a made field goal in the paint from Néné Sow to give Utah the 101-57 point victory.
LEADERS
Utah had four players score in double figures and two players break 20 points or more. The Utes were led by junior Gianna Kneepkens who had 22 points going 9-12 from the field including four made three pointers. Ross also had 20 points and the game high 11 rebounds for career highs in both categories as well as her first career double-double.
Pili had 18 points for the Utes and added five rebounds. Ines Vieira also recorded a double-double with 10 points and a career high 14 assists.
Matyson Wilke was just shy of double digit scoring with nine points all from beyond the arc.
COMPARISON
Utah ended the game shooting 61 percent from the field, 45 percent from beyond the arc, and 63 percent from the free throw line. Utah pulled down 46 total rebounds including 14 offensive boards. The Utes had 35 assists, 10 steals and 16 turnovers.
Alaska Anchorage shot 35 percent from the field, 26 percent from the three and 42 percent from the free throw line. The Seawolves ended the game 22 rebounds, 19 assists and 16 turnovers.
NOTABLES
Utah's 35 assists is just one shy of the school record of assists in a single game. The record stands at 36 assists set in 1981 vs. UTEP. The Utes did set the record for most assists in a game in the Great Alaska Shootout.
Utah had 35 assists on 38 field goals for a 92.1 percentage. This is the best assist/field goal percentage by the Utes since 3/11/2000 vs BYU when Uta had 21 assists on 22 field goals for a 95.5 percentage.
Vieira's 14 assists is the second most assists in a single game by an individual. The last time a Ute had 14 or more assists was March 7, 1997 by Alli Bills.
The attendance for tonight was 3,711 which is the third highest attendance for a sporting event in the Alaska Airlines Center is 3,711.

Utah will take on Eastern Kentucky in the championship of the Great Alaska Shootout, Sunday at 9:30 p.m. (MT) in Anchorage, Alaska, before hosting Merrimack on Nov. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Pac-12 action is set to start Dec. 30 at Colorado.
