Utah junior forward Alissa Pili has been named to the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association All-America team.Â
She is the first Ute to be an outright WBCA All-American. Multiple former Utes have received honorable mention recognition from the WBCA – most recently Morgan Warburton in 2009 – and Deb Asper earned third-team WBCA accolades in 1984.Â
Pili was named Pac-12 Player of the Year and led the Pac-12 in scoring at 20.7 points per game, which ranks 16th in the NCAA. Her shooting percentage of 59.0 is first in the Pac-12 and ranks 14th nationally. Pili also ranks 12th nationally in total made field goals with 250 on the year.Â
The junior from Anchorage, Alaska (Dimond High School) had a streak of scoring 20 or more points in six consecutive games this season that started with her 27-point performance against Arizona on January 15 and ended with 30 points against Oregon on February 5. Her back-to-back 28-point games in early December were the first consecutive games of 28 or more points by a Utah player since 2014, and she was the first Ute to do so in two road games since at least 1999-2000.
She scored a career-high 33 points against Gardner-Webb in the First Round of the NCAA tournament and followed that up with a 28-point performance in the Second Round against Princeton.Â
She hit 30 or more points twice this season and 20 or more points 18 times.Â
Pili topped the 1,000-career-point mark this season as she added 643 of her 1,368 total career points during the 2022-23 season.Â
She helped Utah to its first Pac-12 regular season title and a Sweet 16 appearance. Utah ended the season with a 27-5 overall record and a 15-3 Pac-12 record.Â
