The Atlanta Tipoff Club announced 10 finalists for the 2023 Werner Ladder Naismith Women's College Coach of the Year award. Head Coach Lynne Roberts has been named as one of the finalists.
The Werner Ladder Naismith Coach of the Year award is presented annually to the most outstanding men's and women's college basketball coach who achieves tremendous on-court success.
The award's four finalists will be announced on Monday, March 20. The Fan Vote to help narrow the list down to the final honoree will open Tuesday, March 21, and close Tuesday, March 28. The fan vote will account for?five percent of the overall final vote. The 2023 Werner Ladder Naismith Trophy for Women's Coach of the Year will be awarded on Wednesday, March 29 during the Women's Final Four.
Roberts is the only coach in the Pac-12 in the top finalists. She is in her eighth season at the helm of the Utes and has a 138-103 record. She has recorded back-to-back 20 win seasons after leading Utah to a 21-12 record and to the NCAA 2nd Round during 2021-22.
She's led No. 8 ranked Utah to its first Pac-12 regular season title in school history. The Utes have a 25-4 overall record so far this season and a 15-4 Pac-12 finish. Utah has been ranked in the top five on two separate occasions this season for Utah's highest rankings. Utah has been ranked for 17 weeks this season including 11 consecutive weeks ranked in the top 10.
Utah is currently in the top 10 nationally in five major statistical categories.
- No. 4 field-goal percentage (48.5)
- No. 9 scoring margin (+17.6)
- No. 4 in scoring (83.5)
- No. 6 in assists per game (18.3)
- No. 9 in free throws per game (15.93)
Utah started the season with a 14-0 record and remained undefeated at home with a 14-0 record.
Utah has posted a 4-2 record over Top 25 ranked teams this season including an 84-78 win over then No. 3 Stanford. This is the highest ranked team Utah has beaten in school history.
