HEAR FROM THE UTES
Lynne Roberts, Head Coach
Opening Statement…
"I'm incredibly proud of our team. You know, the last two games against Arizona and then against Stanford have been really hard. But, yesterday when we met as a team for the first time since, I was so impressed with their fortitude and confidence to move forward. I think what you saw today was just a motivated, ticked off team that felt like we were starting to play to our potential. The rotations and benches through the last two games played really well, which is going to matter. The whole team contributed with all five starters in double figures. Just a great win, and a statement when after the last couple games have been so hard, proud of my team."
On Ines Vieira's performance
"What can you say about Ines? That was quite a game. It's not very often you get a standing ovation when you come out. It's never happened to me. She just did a tremendous job of leading the way, setting the tone, defending, and she took great shots, just playing at such a high level, and the team is feeding off of that. So I'm proud of her."
On the difference in game scheme…
"I think the goal coming in was to try to pound it inside and score inside. This road trip is hard for teams that come. At Colorado, they're at elevation. They get on a flight and fly here, they're at elevation, it's cold, and both teams are really good. It's hard. I knew that we might be able to get them on the ropes if we just ran and pounded it inside. And it was at some point in the fourth quarter, Gavin next to me said 'we have 70 points and we've only hit two threes,' which is unique for our team. We'll take what the defense gives us. If they're going to fly out on our shooters then we're gonna pound it inside."
Ines Viera, #2, Guard
On her performance against Cal…
"I told Coach this year that one of the many reasons why I didn't have more minutes last year was because I didn't trust myself and I wasn't really contributing on the offensive point. So, I tried to change my mindset this year and just have more confidence and trust in myself. My teammates trust me and my coach trusts me, so now there's no doubt."
