SALT LAKE CITY – The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced the Preseason Watchlist for the Nancy Liberman Point Guard of the Year Award with Utah women's basketball Ines Vieira earning a place on the list for the first time in her career.Â
Vieira is one of three from the Big 12 on the watch list being joined by West Virginia's Jordan Harrison and Iowa State's Emily Ryan.Â
During the 2023-24 season, Vieira played in all 34 games, started in 31 and averaged 33.1 minutes per game. She averaged 8.1 points per game and shot 42 percent from the field and 31 percent from beyond the arc.Â
She recorded the most assists in a game last season when she had 14 against Alaska Anchorage. She recorded 200 assists on the season and averaged 5.88 assists per game. She finished the season No. 13 in the nation in total assists (200) and was No. 1 in the Pac-12. Vieira also ranked No. 14 in the nation in assists per game (5.88) and No. 1 in the Pac-12 last season.Â
Vieira led the Utes last season in steals with 79 total on the year averaging 2.32 per game.Â
Now in its 26th year, the Nancy Lieberman Award recognizes the top point guard in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. To be considered for this prestigious award, candidates must exhibit the floor leadership, playmaking, and ball-handling skills of Class of 1996 Hall-of-Famer Nancy Lieberman.
