Kneepkens Named to All-Big 12 Preseason Team

SALT LAKE CITY –  The Big 12 Conference has announced the preseason awards and poll for the 2024-25 Big 12 women's basketball season. Utah's Gianna Kneepkens has earned a spot on the Preseason All-Big 12 team and the Utes were picked to finish sixth in the league.Â
League coaches voted on the awards and poll, and were not allowed to vote for their own team.
A 2022-23 All-American, Kneepkens is returning after suffering a season-ending injury early in the 2023-24 season. Prior to her injury, Kneepkens was averaging 17.8 points per game while shooting 63.3 percent from the field and 54.0 percent from beyond the arc. She averaged 5.5 rebounds and four assists per game.Â
Kneepkens knocked down three or more three-pointers in all but one game last season with a season-high of five made against Eastern Kentucky (Nov. 19, 2023). She broke into the 1,000-point club when she put up 19 against Carroll College (Nov. 28, 2023).Â
She averages 14 points per game throughout her career and has career shooting averages of 49.1 percent from the field, 42.3 percent from the three and 84.1 percent from the line. She has 154 total made three pointers and is just five shy from breaking into Utah's top 10 all-time threes made list.Â
The Utes were picked to finish sixth in the Big 12 coaches' poll. Utah finished the 2023-24 season with a 23-11 record and went 11-7 in Pac-12 action. Utah shot 47.3 percent from the field, 36.0 percent from the three. The Utes ended the season in the top 10 in three point shooting, sitting at No. 4 in made three pointers per game (10.2)Â and No. 6 in three-point attempts per game (28.4).Â
Utah will enter the 2024-25 season coming off its third consecutive NCAA tournament appearance, and returns four starters from last year's team that advanced to the Round of 32.
The Utes' 2024-25 schedule begins with a pair of home games against two in-state opponents, facing Southern Utah on Nov. 4 and Weber State on Nov. 7.
