SEATTLE – The Utah women's basketball team rallied from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to come away with a 67-57 win over Washington Saturday evening.
Utah's fourth quarter comeback included 27 points with 14 coming from Gianna Kneepkens and 10 points from Mayé Touré. The Utes' defense locked in during the final quarter only allowing Washington two made field goals and seven points.
GAME SUMMARY
The Utes had a slow start to the game allowing the Huskies to go on an 11-2 scoring run early in the first quarter that then propelled Washington to a 20-11 lead at the end of the initial quarter of play.
Utah found a groove to start the second quarter by going on a 10-0 scoring run to take a 21-20 lead. The Utes and the Huskies took turns controlling the lead the remainder of the first half. At the end of the second quarter, Samantha Crispe swished a three ball to give Utah a 31-29 edge over Washington going into halftime. In the second quarter Utah outscored UW 20-9.
Washington came out of the halftime break firing on all cylinders as it started the third quarter on an 8-0 run. The Utes couldn't gain any momentum as the Huskies took a 50-40 lead going into the final quarter of play. UW ended up outscoring Utah 20-9 in the third quarter.
Utah started the fourth quarter on a 15-2 run. Gianna Kneepkens hit one from beyond the arc to tie the game up at 52-52 with 5:40 left on the clock. On the next possession, Kneepkens sank another three to give the Utes their first lead since the start of the second half. Utah continued its fourth quarter surge with an 8-2 run only allowing Washington a pair of free throws over a three minute span.
Kneepkens was the story in the fourth quarter as she put up 14 points including two made threes and eight made free throws.
Utah ended up outscoring Washington by 20 points in the fourth quarter and ended the game with the 67-57 victory.
LEADERS
Utah had two players score in double figures and were led by Gianna Kneepkens' 24 points. Kneepkens had four made from beyond the arc and went a perfect 8-8 from the freethrow line. She also had the game high rebounds for Utah pulling down seven boards.
Mayé Touré had 12 points for Utah with 10 of them coming in the fourth quarter.
Inês Vieira had four assists to help the Utes' offensive efforts.
COMPARISON
Utah shot 40.4 percent from the field while Washington shot 37.9 percent from the field. Utah went 34.8 percent from deep making 8-of-23 while Washington went 33.3 percent shooting 6-of-18 from the three.
Utah had 14 assists on 21 made field goals while Washington had eight assists on 22 made field goals. The Huskies outrebounded the Utes 37-32.
Utah capitalized 15 points off Washington's 14 turnovers while Washington had two points off Utah's 10 turnovers.
NOTABLES
Utah is now 9-2 overall on the season.
Gianna Kneepkens' 24 points tied her season high and marked her second 20-point game. She has also recorded double digit scoring in every game so far this season.

Utah will kick off Big 12 action on Dec. 21 hosting Arizona State at 4 p.m. (MT) in the Huntsman Center. Utah's will hit then hit the road to close out 2024 with a game on Dec. 21 at Arizona.
