Tuesday's Fan Experience Rundown
- Baseball is back! Come celebrate Opening Night with the Utes in a rivalry matchup with BYU beginning at 6 p.m. inside Smith's Ballpark.
- Once again in the 2024 season, parking on Utah Baseball gamedays is free. Park in the lot on 13th South, directly North of home plate. Fans can also ride TRAX for free with a valid game ticket or University of Utah UCard—just hop on the Red, Blue or Green Lines to Ballpark Station.
- Fans can pick up their very own commemorative schedule posters and magnets inside the ballpark.
The First Pitch: Things to Know
The 2024 home schedule has arrived for the Utah Baseball team and it kicks off with a six-game home stand. In-state rival and future Big 12 Conference foe BYU opens the slate on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
- Pac-12 Network will have the TV broadcast of the game with Thad Anderson (PxP) and former longtime Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg (color) on the call. In addition, Mike Lageschulte will have the radio broadcast via ESPN 700 AM and 92.1 FM.
- The Utes have won seven of their last 10 games and are coming off a rubber game win at Washington State this past Sunday. Utah snapped a three-game losing streak with a 5-4 victory in the middle game in Pullman, then knocked off WSU by a 7-6 score on Sunday to take the series—their third straight over the Cougars.
- Center fielder Kai Roberts (Lehi, Utah) is off to the best start of his career, hitting .350 on the season. Roberts slashed .545 / .615 / 1.455 during the Washington State series, going 6-for-11 with a double, a homer in each of the three games, five RBI and a stolen base. Four of his six hits on the weekend went for extra bases.
- Second baseman Bruer Webster is one of three players (meeting NCAA minimums) to have not yet struck out and is the only such player in the Pac-12. The others are Virginia's Henry Godbout (47 AB) Â and Hector Rodriguez of UTSA (30 AB). Webster has had 38 at bats to date; Cameron Gurney had a similar run in 2023, going 49 at bats before his first strikeout.
- NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List member Micah Ashman (Sandy, Utah) had saves in both of his appearances at Washington State and is now tied for the Pac-12 lead (4). He totaled 2.2 innings pitched in his two outings as WSU hitters went 0-for-8 including four strikeouts.
- Utah's pitching staff continues to rank among the nation's best as the home schedule gets underway. At 3.46, the team's ERA ranks second in the Pac-12 and ranks top-15 nationally, while 7.98 hits allowed per nine innings checks in at fourth-best in the conference and 47th across college baseball.
- Gary Henderson's club has been more aggressive on the basepaths this season and the numbers show: Utah's 26 stolen bases lead the league and are already nearing the halfway mark of last year's total (62 stolen bases).
- The Utes are looking to start the season series against their rival on a high note after going 1-2 against BYU last season. Utah knocked off BYU by a 29-14 score in Provo on April 18, 2023, and Tuesday will look for its first rivalry win in Salt Lake City since an 8-7 walk-off on April 19, 2022.
- Following the midweek matchup with BYU, Utah will get ready to host the No. 3-ranked team in the nation as Oregon State comes to town for a three-game Pac-12 Conference series. Action begins with a 6 p.m. first pitch on Friday, March 15.
