The University of Utah men's tennis team is set to take on Idaho State in their home opener this Saturday, Jan. 25, at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center. The Utes and the Bengals will face off in a doubleheader with the first match starting at 11 a.m. and the second match beginning at 5 p.m.

SCOUTING THE BENGALS
Idaho State will also start off their 2025 season with this meeting against the Utes. Led by head coach Oliver Good in his third season, the Bengals are looking to start off strong after finishing their 2024 season 14-10. Idaho State has a 7-28 record against the Utes since their first match in 2003. Their last meeting in February of 2024 resulted in a 4-1 match for the Bengals, their first since 2006.
MEET THE UTES
Utah is returning four players from last year, including juniors Dylan Applegate,
Berk Bugarikj and
Geremia Rossi. Utah has one sophomore returning to the squad in
Gianluca Citadini. The Utes welcome five new transfers in
Nicolas Calixto,
Dante Teramo,
Max Relic,
Emmett Potter and graduate student
Reid Jarvis.
The Utes are also welcoming freshman four-star recruit Charles Frey, who was ranked No. 1 in the juniors in the state of Utah and consistently held a top three sectional ranking in every age division until the 18s.
HEAD COACH ROELAND BRATEANU
Utah Head Coach Roeland Brateanu, the 2023 Pac-12 Coach of the Year and a five-time ITA Mountain Region Coach of the Year, leads the Utes for his eleventh season this spring. Under Brateanu's leadership, the Utah men captured the 2023 Pac-12 Regular Season title and secured their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance, advancing to its second consecutive second round appearance with a win over Old Dominion. The Utes finished with a 24-6 overall record and a No. 1 ranking in the ITA Mountain Region. Brateanu currently holds a 183-106 overall record at Utah.
