SALT LAKE CITY – Utah head women's basketball has cracked the AP Top 25 for the first time this season, being ranked No. 22 in the latest poll.Â
Utah is 12-2 overall on the season and is 3-0 in Big 12 play. The Utes had been receiving votes in the AP Top 25 for four consecutive weeks prior to cracking the Top 25.Â
The Utes are currently on a seven-game win streak that started when Utah downed No. 3 Notre Dame 78-67 (Nov. 30, 2024). The win over Notre Dame marked the highest ranked win while traveling in school history. Previously, the record for the highest ranked neutral site game was during the 2002-03 season when Utah defeated No. 14 Mississippi State 69-65. The previous record for highest ranked win outside of Salt Lake City was last season when Utah defeated No. 6 USC with a 74-68 score in Los Angeles (Feb. 25, 2024).
Gavin Petersen became the fastest head coach in school history to get a win over a top-10 team, accomplishing the feat in just four games when Utah downed No. 3 Notre Dame 78-67 (Nov. 30, 2024).
The Utes are led by Gianna Kneepkens who averages 17.4 points per game and is shooting 50.0% from the field, 43.3% from the three and 93.4% from the free throw line. She leads the team in made three pointers as well as made free throws. Kneepkens is currently No. 11 in the nation and leads the Big 12 in free throw percentage with 93.4.
She is currently No. 26 in the nation and No. 3 in the Big 12 in three pointers per game (2.79).Â
Utah is currently in the top 30 nationally in 10 major statistical categories:
- No. 8 assists per game (19.5)
- No. 29 assists/turnover (1.22)
- No. 13 field goal percentage (48.5)
- No. 24 free throw percentage (77.4)
- No. 22 scoring (81.5)
- No. 27 scoring margin (21.5)
- No. 3 made three pointers per game (10.3)
- No. 19 three point attempts per game (27.1)
- No. 6 three point percentage (38.8)
- No. 26 winning percentage (85.7)
Inês Vieira is currently No. 13 in the nation and No. 5 in the Big 12 in total assists with 84. She is also No. 13 nationally, No. 4 in the Big 12 in assists per game (6.0).
