MISSOULA, Mont. – Utah women's basketball picked up a big 78-38 win over the Montana Lady Griz Saturday afternoon.
The Utes now move to 5-3 overall on the season. Utah had 13 made three pointers a its best rebounding game of the season with 53. The Utes had four score in double figures and were led by
Lani White's 16 points.
Brooke Walker led with eight rebounds while
Reese Ross,
Maty Wilke,
Lani White and
LA Sneed who each recorded seven.
GAME SUMMARY
Utah started the game strong jumping out to a 21-16 lead after the first quarter. The Utes started the second quarter out with a 7-0 run to push out for a 12 point lead. Later in the second, the Utes strung together a 10-2 run and finished out the first half with a 42-25 lead.
Utah came out of the halftime break locked in and went on a 17-0 run while holding the Lady Griz to an eight minute scoring drought. Despite Montana hitting back-to-back three pointers in the final minute of the third quarter, Utah still had a 25 point lead as the quarter ended.
The Utes continued to control the pace of the game in the final 10 minutes of action and ended the game on a 14-0 run holding Montana scoreless for the final seven minutes of play to pull out for the 78-38 win over the Lady Griz.
LEADERS
Utah had four Utes score in double figures and were led by senior
Lani White's 16 points. White went 6-of-11 from the field, 2-of-5 from three and 2-of-2 from the line.
Chyra Evans and
Maty Wilke each added 11 points to Utah's total with Wilke knocking down three from beyond the arc.
Evelina Otto had a big game with 10 points going 5-of-6 from the field.
Wilke posted five assists to help out Utah's offensive efforts.
Brooke Walker pulled down a career-high eight rebounds to lead the Utes. Utah had four others who pulled down seven rebounds in
Reese Ross,
LA Sneed, White and Wilke. Sneed had a career-high four steals to help out Utah's defensive efforts.
COMPARISON
Utah shot 44.9%% from the field while Montana shot 17.2% from the field. Utah went 37.1% from three making 13-of-35 while Montana went 16.2% shooting 6-of-37. The Utes shot 75.0% from the line going 3-of-4 while the Lady Griz shot 92.3% from the line going 12-of-13.
Utah had 15 assists to Montana's six. The Utes outrebounded the Lady Griz 53-32. Utah had just eight turnovers and forced Montana into 10. Utah converted those turnovers into 18 points while Montana was only able to capitalize with eight points from turnovers. Utah boasted 34 points in the paint to Montana's two. The Utes' bench showed out with 32 points while Montana's bench produced just 10 points.
UP NEXT
The Utes stay on the road and will take on the Rams of Colorado State on Dec. 4 in Fort Collins. Utah will then have three straight home games starting with Boise State on Dec. 12 before hosting Northwestern Dec. 14 and UC Riverside Dec. 17. Utah will then start Big 12 play Dec. 22 at Arizona.
