FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Utah women's basketball stayed consistent with a 70-58 victory over Colorado State Thursday afternoon.
Utah's freshman Avery Hjelmstad and LA Sneed led the Utes with career-high performances and combined for 38 of Utah's 70 points. Hjelmstad posted 22 points for a career-high and to become the first Ute this season hitting 20 or more points in a game. She also posted a career-high five made from beyond the arc. Sneed posted a career-high with 16 points and a career-high two made from beyond the arc.
GAME SUMMARY Utah started the game out hitting back-to-back threes one by Reese Ross and the other from Maty Wilke. The Utes then pushed out for a seven point lead over the Rams but ended the first quarter on a three minute scoring drought allowing CSU to bring the score within three for a 17-14 score.
Colorado State started the second quarter by capturing the lead from Utah. A Wilke three sparked some momentum for the Utes as they took back the lead and maintained and ended the first half with a 32-29 lead over the Rams.
The Rams stole momentum early in the third quarter with a 9-0 run to take a 42-39 lead over Utah. After some back and forth on the scoreboard, Utah ended the third quarter on a 13-2 run that included four made three pointers over a two minute period.
The fourth quarter queen, Avery Hjelmstad hit back-to-back threes to start the final 10 minutes of play. Utah was able to maintain a 10 point lead for the majority of the fourth quarter and pulled out the 70-58 win over Colorado State.
LEADERS Utah had three Utes score in double figures and were led by freshman Avery Hjelmstad's career-high night with 22 points. Hjelmstad had five made from deep for a career-high three point performance. LA Sneed got her first career start for Utah and posted a career-high 16 points going 6-of-11 from the field and 2-of-4 from deep. She also led the Utes with six assists. Reese Ross recorded a season-high 13 points.
Maty Wilke led Utah with seven rebounds while Lani White and Ross each pulled down 5.
COMPARISON Utah shot 50% from the field while Colorado State shot 41% from the field. Utah went 48% from three making 13-of-27 while CSU went 33% shooting 5-of-15. The Utes shot 64% from the line going 7-of-11 while the Rams shot 81% from the line going 13-of-16.
Utah had 16 assists to Colorado State's nine. The Utes outrebounded the Rams 32-26. Utah had just 15 turnovers and forced Colorado State into 13, the most turnovers by the Rams this season. Utah's bench boasted 25 points while the Rams' bench had just seven.

The Utes forced the Rams into 13 turnovers which is the most by Colorado State so far this season. Utah also held CSU to 58 points for the lowest points scored in a game by the Rams this season.
Hjelmstad continued to dominate in the fourth quarter posting 10-of-22 points in the fourth quarter going 4-of-5 from the field and 2-of-3 from the three in the final quarter of play. She is currently averaging 61.4% of her total points in the fourth quarter.
Hjelmstad became the first Ute to hit a 20-point game this season with her 22 points on the night.
UP NEXT Utah will have three straight home games starting with Boise State on Dec. 12 before hosting Northwestern Dec. 14 and UC Riverside Dec. 17. Utah will then start Big 12 play Dec. 22 at Arizona.
