LOS ANGELES – The University of Utah men's tennis team fell to LMU 4-2 Sunday afternoon.
Utah has won four of its last five matches and now sit at 6-2 overall on the season and remain 1-0 in Big 12 play.
DOUBLES
Utah started the match off slowly, dropping the doubles point to LMU. LMU picked up a win at the No. 3 spot to start the match off. Utah duo Reid Jarvis and Dante Teramo answered with a 6-3 win at the No. 1 spot. The doubles advantage point came down to the No. 2 court where Emmett Potter and Max Relic were tied 4-4 before the Lions went on to claim the win and the overall doubles point.
SINGLES
Berk Bugarikj started singles play off strong with a 6-0, 6-3 win over LMU's Arthur Pantino in the No. 1 spot. LMU then picked up a win on court No. 3 to take back the lead in favor of the Lions. Reid Jarvis tied the overall match up at 2-2 with his 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5 over the Lions' Alex Padro.
LMU took back the overall match edge with a win on court No. 2. The match came down to courts No. 4 and No. 6 with Utah's Dante Teramo and Nicolas Calixto going into third sets.
At the No. 6 spot Calixto faced off against Jacopo Denitto where Calixto won the first set 6-4 and dropped the second set 2-6. In the third set Calixto was tied 3-3 before LMU went on to claim the third set therefore clinching the overall match with a final score of 4-2.
Teramo was tied 3-3 in his third set at the No. 4 spot before the match went unfinished.
UP NEXT
The Utes will head to Murfreesboro, Tenn. to take part in the Battle In Boro Feb. 21-23 before returning home to host Denver on March 2.
