Utes Down Pioneers in 4-3 Thriller

SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah men's tennis team clinched a 4-3 victory over Denver on Sunday afternoon at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center. The Utes continue to be undefeated at home, posting a 4-0 record in Salt Lake City and an 8-4 record overall.
Utah saw stellar performances from both Emmett Potter and Charles Frey. Potter grabbed the first singles win for the Utes in his tiebreaker, shifting momentum for the rest of the singles matches, as Frey fought in three sets to claim the victory for the Utes.

DOUBLES
Utah took an early lead on the Pioneers after securing the doubles point. Berk Bugarikj and Max Relic tallied the first victory, defeating Ryoma Mishiro and Rikuto Yamaguchi 6-1 in the No. 2 spot. Reid Jarvis and Dante Teramo clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Theo Coats and Daniel Sancho Arbizu in the No. 1 spot. Potter and Gianluca Citadini were leading Rafaello Papajcik and Connor Robb-Wilcox 5-2 before remaining unfinished in the No. 3 spot.

SINGLES
Denver claimed victories in three singles matches on courts one, two and three. Potter turned things around for the Utes in his tiebreaker win in the No. 5 spot, defeating Robb-Wilcox 6-3, 7-6 (1). Teramo quickly responded to even the overall match score 3-3. He claimed the tiebreak win with a 6-4, 7-6 (4) edge on Denver's Samuel Rovai at the No. 4 spot in the lineup.Â
The match came down to Frey's match at the No. 6 spot. Frey clinched the victory for the Utes in his standout performance. He dropped his first 4-6 and claimed the second set with 6-4 score forcing a third set. Frey was able to bring it home on an ace to take down Coats 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
