MANHATTAN, Kan. –The Utah women's basketball team got a clean road sweep as the Utes picked up an impressive 80-73 win over Kansas State Saturday afternoon.
The Utes are now 13-4 overall on the season and sit at 4-1 in Big 12 action. Utah was led by two career-high performances. Reese Ross posted her fifth career double-double with a career-high 21 points from nine made field goals and 10 rebounds. Grace Foster also posted career-high scoring with her 17 points.
GAME SUMMARY Utah started the game going 5-of-5 from the field to help capture momentum early in the first quarter. Utah had an 8-0 run to propelled them to 22-14 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Utah continued the pressure in the second quarter thanks to a 12-3 start. K-State found a groove late in the half thanks to a 7-0 run but Utah still maintained a 12 point lead going into the break.
In the first half of play, three Utes shot a perfect game from the floor. Reese Ross was 6-of-6 from the floor including 2-of-2 from the three and 1-of-1 from the line. Chyra Evans was 2-of-2 from the floor while Grace Foster went 3-of-3 from the field including 2-of-2 from three and 2-of-2 from the line.
The Utes came out of the halftime break firing and dominated the majority of the third quarter outscoring the Wildcats 17-2 over a seven minute span. Utah stayed locked in and ended the third quarter with a 60-41 lead over K-State.
K-State wasn't about to bow down to Utah as the Wildcats controlled the fourth quarter going on a 20-5 run over five minutes of action to bring the score back within single digits. In the final two minutes of the game, Utah found a spark and went on a 9-0 run. Utah was able to close out the game with the 80-73 victory over K-State.
LEADERS Utah had three Utes score in double figures and were led by junior Reese Ross' double-double with a career-high 21 points and 10 rebounds. Ross went 9-of-11 from the field for a new career high in field goals made. This is Ross' third double-double this season and fifth in her career. Grace Foster also posted a career-high with 17 points. Maty Wilke added 14 points to Utah's total score.
Chyra Evans had a big night on the boards with eight rebounds and she led the Utes with five assists. LA Sneed also added four assists to help out the Utes offensive efforts.
COMPARISON Utah shot 50.0% from the field while Kansas State shot 46.9%. Utah went 36.1% from three, knocking down 11-of-30, while K-State shot 27.6%, making 8-of-29. At the free-throw line, Utah shot an impressive 93.8% going 15-of-16 while K-State shot 55.6% converting 5-of-9.
Utah had 20 assists on 27 made field goals while Kansas posted 14 assists on 30 made field goals. The Utes had a big night on the boards pulling down 37 to the Wildcats' 25.
UP NEXT Utah continues the Big 12 grind and will return home Jan. 14 to take on Baylor at 7 p.m. before heading back on the road to take on Houston Jan. 17.
