SALT LAKE CITY– The Utah women's basketball team fell 77-49 to No. 19 Texas Tech Saturday evening.
Utah is now 14-6 overall on the season and 5-3 in Big 12 play. Reese Ross led the Utes with 13 points and nine rebounds.
GAME SUMMARY Texas Tech started off the game on a 12-4. Lani White scored the first four points for Utah however the Utes were not able to gain momentum. Texas Tech continued putting on the pressure, holding Utah to over a three minute scoring drought and going on a 13-2 run. The quarter ended 19-8 in favor of the Lady Raiders.
In the second quarter Texas Tech continued strong outscoring Utah 20-12 in the second quarter. At the end of the first half the Lady Raiders had a 39-20 lead over the Utes.
Texas Tech continued to control the pace of the game in the third quarter and pushed out for its largest lead of the game with 35 points. The Lady Raiders remained in control for the remainder of the game and walked away with the 77-49 to victory over the Utes.
LEADERS Utah had two Utes score in double figures and were led by Reese Ross' 13 points. Lani White posted 10 points. Maty White had an effective game on the score board with eight points including two made from beyond the arc..
Ross led the Utes on the boards with nine rebounds. LA Sneed contributed four assists while Chyra Evans added three to help out the Utes offensive efforts.
COMPARISON Utah shot 32.7% from the field while Texas Tech shot 51.9%. Utah went 18.8% from three knocking down 3-of-16 while Texas Tech shot 45.0% going 9-of-20. At the free-throw line, Utah shot 82.4% going 14-of-17 while Texas Tech shot 85.7% converting 12-of-14.
UP NEXT Utah will return to the Jon M. Huntsman Center to take on West Virginia Jan. 27. The Utes won't travel far for the next road game heading just south to Provo to take on rival BYU Jan. 31.
