SALT LAKE CITY— The Utah Utes men's tennis team will travel on the road to San Diego to play against the Aztecs on Sat. Feb 14. The Utes currently hold a 3-3 record after a win against the Montana Grizzlies in Colorado this past weekend.

SCOUTING THE AZTECS
The San Diego Aztecs are coming off a 9-13 overall record in the 2025 season. The Aztecs went 2-4 in MWC play. San Diego sees returner in senior Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice, who had an overall singles record of 11-11. San Diego is currently 1-7 in their official 2026 season and will head on the road to play UC Irvine on February 22.
THE UTES
The Utah men's tennis program returns seniors Max Relic and
Dante Teramo. The Utes also welcome back junior
Emmett Potter. Utah has one sophomore returning to the squad in
Charles Frey. The Utes welcome five newcomers with two transfers in
Lorenzo Esquici and
Simeon Terziev and three new true freshmen in
AJ Deem,
Oliver Mesicek, and
Balthazar Huss.
FRESHIE UP AND COMING
The freshman from Milan, Italy Balthazar Huss is making a statement in his first year with the Utes. Huss holds an overall record of 4-2 and is on a four game winning streak. When
Dante Teramo and Huss are partners in doubles, they hold a 5-1 record.
LAST TIME OUT
The Utah men's tennis team won 4-0 against the Montana Grizzlies in an away matchup in Denver, Colorado. The Utes started off strong sweeping in doubles action. In singles play, Utah secured victories in the No. 1, No. 4, and No. 6 spots to clinch the match. The Utes won the match 4-0.
HEAD COACH ROELAND BRATEANU
The Utah men's tennis team welcomed back Roeland Brateanu for his twelfth season as head coach. Brateanu coached the team to a historic 2022-2023 season, earning their first Pac-12 Regular Season Title. Prior to that season, Brateanu led the team to an 18-0 record in the 2021 season and finished ranked in No. 50 in the Oracle/ITA finale ranking. Brateanu currently holds a 186-109 overall record at Utah.
NEXT UP
The Utes will travel to Tennessee for the Battle In Boro from Feb. 20 to Feb. 22. Utah will take on Middle Tennessee (Feb. 20), Rice (Feb. 21), and Old Dominion (Feb. 22).
