SALT LAKE CITY— The Utah Utes men's tennis team will head to Tennessee for the Battle in Boro, taking place Friday Feb. 20-Feb. 22. The Utes will play three matches throughout the weekend, facing Middle Tennessee (2/20), Rice (2/21), and Old Dominion (2/22).

SCOUTING THE BLUE RAIDERS
The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders are coming off a 16-12 overall record in the 2025 season. The Blue Raiders went 12-5 when playing at home. Middle Tennessee sees a returner in senior Karim Al-Amin, who had an overall singles record of 27-17. Middle Tennessee is currently 7-3 in their official 2026 season.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
The Owls are coming off a 16-10 overall record in the 2025 season. The Owls went 4-3 in AAC play. Rice sees a returner in senior Santiago Navarro, who had an overall singles record of 13-8. The Owls are currently 3-3 in their official 2026 season.
SCOUTING THE BIG BLUE
Old Dominion is coming off a 17-9 overall record in the 2025 season. The Big Blue's went 7-0 in SBC play. Old Dominion sees a returner in senior Yanis Moundir, who had an overall singles record of 15-10. Old Dominion is currently 6-2 in their official 2026 season.
THE UTES
The Utah men's tennis program returns seniors Max Relic and
Dante Teramo. The Utes also welcome back junior
Emmett Potter. Utah has one sophomore returning to the squad in
Charles Frey. The Utes welcome five newcomers with two transfers in
Lorenzo Esquici and
Simeon Terziev and three new true freshmen in
AJ Deem,
Oliver Mesicek, and
Balthazar Huss.
FRESHIE UP AND COMING
The freshman from Milan, Italy Balthazar Huss is making a statement in his first year with the Utes. Huss holds an overall record of 4-3 in singles play. When
Dante Teramo and Huss are partners in doubles, they hold a 5-2 record.
LAST TIME OUT
The Utah men's tennis team fell 4-3 against San Diego State in San Diego, California. The Utes got off to a slow start as the Aztecs swept the Utes in doubles action. In singles play, San Diego State secured victories in the No. 2, No. 4, and No. 1 spot.
HEAD COACH ROELAND BRATEANU
The Utah men's tennis team welcomed back Roeland Brateanu for his twelfth season as head coach. Brateanu coached the team to a historic 2022-2023 season, earning their first Pac-12 Regular Season Title. Prior to that season, Brateanu led the team to an 18-0 record in the 2021 season and finished ranked in No. 50 in the Oracle/ITA finale ranking. Brateanu currently holds a 186-110 overall record at Utah.
NEXT UP
The Utes will travel to Las Vegas, Nevada where they will take on Grand Canyon University on February 28th and UNLV on March 1st.
