DENVER/GREELEY, Colo. – The University of Utah men's tennis team wrapped up their road trip to Colorado earlier today, defeating the University of Denver and University of Northern Colorado. To start of the day, the Utes defeated Denver with a final score of 5-2, beating the Pioneers for the first time in Denver since 2006. They later wrapped things up with Northern Colorado later in the day, sweeping the Bears with a score of 7-0, improving to 9-1 on the season.
Against the University of Denver, Utah took an early edge in double play with
Egbert Weverink and
Joe Woolley picking up a 7-6 win over Jorge Nunez and Mattia Ros at the No. 2 position.
Azat Hankuliyev and
Dan Little then picked up the final win needed to secure the doubles point for the Utes, beating out Pedro F. De Valle and Eric Morris with a score of 7-6 on the No. 3 court.
In singles action,
Dan Little picked up the first win for the Utes against Eric Morris at the No. 1 spot, with a final score of 6-3, 6-2.
Egbert Weverink then followed with a win of his own at the No. 4 position, moving past Jorge Nunez, 6-3, 7-6. On the No. 2 court,
David Micevski picked up a victory against Mattia Ros with a score of 6-3, 7-5. Then in a competitive match at the No. 6 spot,
Santiago Sierra bested Sean Huynh with a final score of 6-7, 6-3, 6-2, defeating the Pioneers with a score of 5-2.
Against the Northern Colorado Bears, the Utah men's tennis team started things by earning the doubles point.
Azat Hankuliyev and
Dan Little recorded the first win for the Utes, beating out Nick Wade and Michael Kritzinger at the No. 3 spot with a score of 6-3.
Russell Benkaim and
Randy Cory the secured the point by defeating Cassell King and Connor Finerty on the No. 1 court, with a final score of 6-4.
In singles action,
Slava Shainyan bested Northern Colorado's Kyle Pease at the No. 3 position in a back and forth match, with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
David Micevski,

Santiago Sierra, Hankuliyev, and
Chase Stoner all won in straight sets to give the Utes a 7-0 victory and head home to Salt Lake City undefeated on the weekend.
The Utah men's tennis team will be back in action next week with three home matches in Salt Lake City at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center. The Utes will face off against Boise State on Friday, Feb. 16
th, with play set to begin at 5 p.m. Following on Saturday, Feb 17
th, they will match up against UC Irvine at 10 a.m., followed by a match against the University of Montana at 5:30 p.m. to wrap up play for the weekend.
