Utes Fall to No. 4 Stanford, 4-0

STANFORD, Calif. – No. 32 Utah was unable to come up with a victory today, dropping its match to No. 4 Stanford, 4-0. With this loss, the Utes move to an overall record of 19-3, and are now 2-1 in Pac-12 conference play.

"It was a tough match for us today, but we have to give credit where credit is due," said head coach Roeland Brateanu. "Stanford has a great team. It is a tough place to play and we had too many guys not reach their normal level today. We will have to shake this one off quickly and play another tough team tomorrow."

In doubles, the Utes fell behind early as the Cardinal were able to take the point. Russell Benkaim and Randy Cory were the only doubles team to record a victory for the Utes, defeating the No. 23-ranked pair in the nation, Tom Fawcett and Axel Geller, with a score of 6-3.

Then in singles, David Micevski was unable to record a victory against No. 56 Axel Geller at the No. 2 spot, 6-0, 6-1. On the No. 3 court, Egbert Weverink fell to No. 78 Sameer Kumar, 6-4, 6-1, as the Cardinal moved into winning position with a score of 3-0. At the No. 5 spot, Cory was beaten by David Wilczynski, 6-1, 6-2, as Stanford was able to come away with the victory against the Utes.
