BERKELEY, Calif. – In a game that saw 10 lead changes, the University of Utah women's basketball team came away with a 71-62 win over the California Golden Bears on the road today, improving to 10-8 overall and 3-4 in Pac-12 play.
The Utes put together multiple scoring runs throughout the game to gain momentum, but the most important run of the game would come in the fourth quarter. Utah took off on a 13-2 run to take a 69-60 lead with just 55 seconds left to play in the game while Cal would go on to commit seven turnovers during that time span.
After a slow second quarter where the Utes only shot 26-percent from the floor and trailed by one at halftime, Utah came out in the third quarter with some heat behind them. The Utes shot 52-percent from the floor in the third quarter and 66-percent from the three with Maurane Corbin hitting a buzzer beating layup to put the Utes up by two to end the period.
Lola Pendande came alive in the fourth quarter, scoring eight of her nine points in with the Utes outscoring Cal 12-6 in the paint in the fourth. The Utes were able to pull away late with Kiana Moore, Dru Gylten and Corbin all making clutch free throws down the line for the Utes' third straight win.

STAT OF THE GAME

TALKING ABOUT THE GAME: Head Coach Lynne Roberts
"I thought offensively it wasn't as easy today. Brynna obviously had a spectacular game and was feeling it, so we kept going to her and she kept answering. In the last five minutes, we shut them down defensively and we got stops when we needed it – and that is progress."
"We didn't shoot from the free throw line well, and we didn't shoot it great overall outside of Brynna, but to still score 71 and get a win is great. I am really proud of our team. We are proving that we can find ways to win on the road and even when it isn't easy."
NOTABLE
Brynna Maxwell has scored 20+ points in back-to-back games, including her career-high 27 points against Cal today (24 vs. Colorado). It was her third game this season in the 20-point range and her second straight game scoring a career-high.
Utah scored 23 points off turnovers in comparison to Cal's 12. Utah's 23 points off turnovers is the third most by the Utes this season after scoring 35 vs. UTSA and 42 against Weber State.
