LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The University of Utah women's basketball team fell to the No. 9 UCLA Bruins on Sunday afternoon, 77-54. Utah is 13-16 overall this season and 6-12 to finish out regular season Pac-12 play.
In a game that saw 47 combined fouls and 28 turnovers, it was hard for either team to get offensive momentum, but the difference would come on the boards as UCLA out-rebounded the Utes 55-37. Of UCLA's 55 rebounds, 29 were offensive, including 20 offensive boards in the first half.
Both teams in the game would go on to take season-high free throw attempts with Utah going 21-of-32 (65.6%) and UCLA recording 26-of-32 (81.3%) from the free throw line.
The offensive struggles for the Utes started early, not hitting their first field goal of the game until the 2:45 mark of the first quarter. Utah was only able to knock down two field goals in the first quarter, shooting 20-percent from the floor to trail by 11 at the end of the period.
The Utes came out of halftime down 17, but would commit six of their nine, second half turnovers in the third quarter while only shooting 18-percent from the floor. Utah made it a 16-point game early in the third quarter, but that would be the closest the Utes would come for the remainder of the game.
Utah's bench scored 38 of its 54 total points against the Bruins with six of the seven players that came off the bench in today's game scoring at least two points. The Utes finished the game shooting 28-percent from the floor overall and 22-percent from the three.
