SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah baseball and head coach
Gary Henderson announced today that the Utes will host a pair of Fall exhibition games inside Smith's Ballpark. Utah will take on Nevada at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 7 before clashing with in-state rival BYU on Friday, October 13 at 4 p.m.
It'll be a great chance to fans to get an early look at the 2024 Utes. Both games are open to the public and free of charge; no tickets are required.
Utah welcomed a wealth of new talent to the roster this Fall, while also bringing back key pieces from the 2023 season. The Utes had one of their best offensive seasons since joining the Pac-12 Conference, resetting program records in that era for runs per game, hits, home runs, total bases, walks and OBP. In conference play, the club led the Pac-12 in sac bunts and struck out the least of any offense.
Four Utes were named Pac-12 All-Conference, highlighted by the returning
Micah Ashman on the mound and outfielder
TJ Clarkson. First baseman
Jayden Kiernan earned postseason accolades after becoming the first .400 hitter in Utah's Pac-12 era, and submariner
Zac McCleve was tabbed before signing as an undrafted free agent with the Tampa Bay Rays organization.
Along with McCleve, fellow pitchers
Cam Day (Los Angeles Dodgers) and
Blake Whiting (Milwaukee) signed UDFA contracts this past Summer.
