SCOUTING THE BEARS
Baylor comes in ranked No. 15 in the latest ITA poll with a 15-8 overall record and a 1-1 mark in Big 12 play. The Utes and Bears have met just twice, with Baylor winning the most recent matchup, 4-0, in May 2019.Â
SCOUTING THE HORNED FROGS
No. 2 TCU enters the week with a 15-2 overall record and a perfect 3-0 mark in Big 12 play. The Horned Frogs have won six straight matches, five of which came against ranked opponents. Utah and TCU share an eight-match history, with the Utes trailing 6-2 in the all-time series. TCU earned a 4-0 win in the most recent meeting, back in May 2022.
LAST TIME OUT
No. 52 Utah dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 11 UCF on Sunday in a ranked Big 12 matchup in Salt Lake City. The Utes claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3, as
Charles Frey and
Reid Jarvis secured a 6-3 victory, followed by a tiebreak win from
Nicolas Calixto and
Emmett Potter.
UCF responded in singles, earning straight-set wins on courts one, five, and four to take a 3-1 lead. The Knights clinched the match on court two, despite a strong effort from Dante Teramo. Potter led 5-2 in the third set on court three when play was halted.
With the loss, Utah moved to 13-6 on the season and 2-1 in Big 12 play.
UTES IN THE RANKS
Utah is currently ranked No. 50 in the nation in the latest ITA poll, continuing to build momentum throughout the season. In singles,
Berk Bugarikj holds a national ranking of No. 97, showcasing his strong individual performances this season. In doubles,
Reid Jarvis and
Dante Teramo have earned national recognition, coming in at No. 52 in the ITA doubles rankings. The duo has been a strong presence at the top of Utah's doubles lineup, delivering key victories throughout the season.
HEAD COACH ROELAND BRATEANU
Utah Head Coach
Roeland Brateanu, the 2023 Pac-12 Coach of the Year and a five-time ITA Mountain Region Coach of the Year, leads the Utes for his eleventh season this spring. Under Brateanu's leadership, the Utah men captured the 2023 Pac-12 Regular Season title and secured their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance, advancing to its second consecutive second round appearance with a win over Old Dominion. The Utes finished with a 24-6 overall record and a No. 1 ranking in the ITA Mountain Region. Brateanu currently holds a 183-106 overall record at Utah.
