KICKOFF
Utah Soccer travels to the Bay Area this weekend for a pair of Pac-12 contests. The Utes are at No. 1 Stanford on Thursday at 5 p.m. before traveling to Berkeley for a 12:30 p.m. contest at Cal on Sunday
QUICK KICKS
- Utah has shut out four opponents in a row. This is the longest scoreless streak for the Utah defense since it blanked nine consecutive foes during the 2006 season en route to an 18-5-1 record.
- After one point in her first two seasons (40 games),
Ireland Dunn has 12 points, second-most on the team
- She paces Pac-12 players with three assists in league play and her three goals and nine points both rank fourth in the conference.
-
Holly Daugirda's game-winner vs. WSU was her first since her collegiate debut against Weber State in 2016
- The win over WSU was Utah's first overtime win against a Pac-12 school in almost three seasons (10/30/15 vs. ASU)
-
Paola van der Veen has scored six times this year (8th in the Pac-12) to pace the team, after eight goals last season
- Five Utes have started every game this season; Daugirda,
Haylee Cacciacarne,
Hailey Skolmoski,
Hailey Stodden and
Carly Nelson
- The matchup between Utah and Stanford pits the two stingiest defenses against one another. Utah has allowed three goals in six matches and the Cardinal have shipped two in five.
- Utah is 0-2 against No. 1 ranked teams. The Utes fell at No. 1 ranked Stanford, 4-0, in 2011 and at No. 1 UCLA, 1-0, in 2014.
- With a win over No. 7 Washington State two weeks ago, the Utes improved to 2-10-5 against Top 10 conference foes since joining the Pac-12 in 2011, with both wins coming at home.
- Utah's last win on the road against a Top 10 team was its biggest, beating No. 7 UCLA, 2-1, in 2004. It also toppled No. 10 Florida State in the 2016 NCAA Tournament, but at a neutral site.
- In terms of poll position, Utah's best win in program history was a 1-0 victory over No. 2 Florida at Ute Field in 2003.
NELSON NAMED PAC-12 GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Carly Nelson was named the Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week on Oct. 9 for her shutout performances against Washington and No. 7 Washington State.
Nelson made a season-high nine saves in the win over the Huskies and then recorded her fifth shutout of the season, and 10th of her career, against the nationally ranked Cougars.
Nelson currently ranks second in the Pac-12 with a .909 save percentage and leads the league with four shutouts. She also ranks second with 59 saves and third with a goals-against average of 0.57.
This was the 14th Pac-12 weekly award for Utah Soccer and second for Nelson.Â
