The Basics: The University of Utah women's basketball program is set to open their season with a road game at the University of Nevada. It is the second straight year that the Utes have opened their season against the Wolf Pack, defeating Nevada 87-61 in Salt Lake City last year.
Â
How to Tune In: The game against the Wolf Pack will be streamed live on the Mountain West Network, via www.NevadaWolfPack.com. Fans can also catch the game in action on the radio with Tyson Ewing calling the shots on ESPN 700.
Â
The Opponent: The Nevada Wolf Pack has a Pac-12 tie at the helm with former Arizona State associate head coach Amanda Levens entering her second season as the head coach. The Wolf Pack finished the 2017-18 season 19-17 overall and seventh in the Mountain West (7-11) before advancing to postseason play (WBI). Their 19-win season was the first winning campaign since 2013-14 with six letter winners returning to the floor this year. Nevada returns two senior starters, but like Utah, welcomes seven newcomers (6 freshmen) to their program.
Â
On The Road: Utah is 19-20 on the road under the direction of head coach
Lynne Roberts (7-7 in 2017-18, 6-6 in 2016-17, 6-7 in 2015-16). The last time Utah opened a season on the road was at Denver in 2012-13, winning 75-60.
Â
Utah vs. The Mountain West: Utah spent 12 seasons in the Mountain West Conference before moving to the Pac-12 in 2011-12. The Utes hold a 337-80 all-time record against the current members of the Mountain West, including a 7-0 record against the Wolf Pack.
Â
Three Pointers:
• Utah is coming of its third straight postseason appearance and its second 18-win season in the past three years.
• Utah returns three senior starters in
Erika Bean,
Megan Huff and
Daneesha Provo. Huff was named to the Pac-12 All-Conference first-team last season.
• After losing four players to graduation in 2017-18, Utah welcomes seven newcomers to the court this year. Four true freshmen (
Niyah Becker,
Dre'Una Edwards,
Lola Pendande,
Andrea Torres) and graduate transfer
Sarah Porter will look to make an immediate impact this year while Utah's two junior transfers (
Ola Makurat,
Julie Brosseau) will sit out in 2018-19 due to NCAA transfer rules.
Â
Lynne Roberts Press Conference: Head coach
Lynne Roberts will hold a weekly press conference every Tuesday, starting on Dec. 4. Fans can tune-in on Facebook Live from the Utah Athletics main account.
Â
Season Openers: Utah is 32-12 all-time in season openers since the program began in 1974-75. Utah is 3-0 in season openers under the direction of
Lynne Roberts and have won eight straight (home and away).
Â
Last Time Out: Utah defeated Westminster College in its only exhibition game of the season, 118-80. Utah had two 20-point scorers in
Megan Huff and true freshman
Dre'Una Edwards with
Daneesha Provo adding 15.
Jordan Cruz and
Andrea Torres chipped in 12 points each while
Dru Gylten put up nine points and 16 assists.
Â
If It Counted: Unfortunately, the stats for Utah's game against Westminster don't count towards NCAA rankings or records, but if they did...
 •
Dru Gylten's 16 assists would have set a Utah single-game assists record. The current record is 15, set by Holly Rawlings (vs. BYU, 1981) and Monica Starrett (vs. Boise State, 1981).
 •
Megan Huff's 20-point outing would have counted as her eighth career game in the 20-point range.
 •
Kiana Moore's four steals would have been a career high.
 •
Dre'Una Edwards's 20 points would have been the most scored by a true freshman in the
Lynne Roberts era.
