Three Pointers:
• Utah's eight Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honors ties for the most by a program in a season. It is just the second time in Pac-12 history that program has had eight in one season, tying with Cal in 2015-16.
• The Utes jumped into the top-10 nationally in assists per game, averaging 18.2 which ranks 10th in the NCAA and second in the Pac-12. The Utes currently have two players averaging over 5.0 assists per game in
Dru Gylten (5.7 ranks 3rd in the Pac-12) and
Erika Bean (5.5 ranks 4th in the Pac-12).
• There are currently only two teams in the country that are ranked in the top-15 nationally in field goal percentage, three-point percentage and free throw percentage and they both play in the Pac-12. Utah is ninth in FG%, 14th in FT% and eighth in 3-PT%, joining Oregon as the only other team in the nation ranked in the top-15 in all three.
Last Time Out: A fourth quarter run by UCLA proved costly for the Utes after falling to the Bruins 100-90 on Sunday. It was the first team since 1986 that the Utes have given up 100 points in regulation, despite scoring 90 themselves.
Megan Huff led the way among Utah's five double-digit scorers with 23 points and 13 rebounds.
Dre'Una Edwards added a career-high 21 points along with six rebounds with
Kiana Moore putting up 17 points and three assists.
Dru Gylten scored 14 points for her second straight double-figure performance with
Erika Bean chipping in 10 points and a team-high eight assists.
Utah vs. The Pac-12: The Utes are 112-153 against the current members of the Pac-12. Since joining the Pac-12 in 2011-12, Utah is 51-87 in conference play.
Naismith Watch: Megan Huff was named to the Citizen Naismith Trophy Midseason Team this week. The national player of the year award watch list includes 30 players from 20 different colleges, including seven student-athletes from the Pac-12.
Balanced Attack: Of the eight players eligible for competition this season, six have led the Utes in scoring on at least one occasion with all eight of its players scoring in double digits at least once. Utah has had six different players reach the 20-point mark this season as well, the most players on one team to reach the 20-point mark in the Pac-12 (Cal, Oregon and Colorado had five players each).
Freshie Fresh: Over the weekend, two of Utah's four freshmen that see action scored career-highs in the 20-point range.
Dru Gylten got things started with her 24 points against USC, the second-most points by a freshman in the Pac-12 this season (28 pts, Shalexxus Aaron of USC vs. Washington).
Dre'Una Edwards followed it up with a career-high 21 points against UCLA, shooting 6-of-12 from the floor and a perfect 9-of-9 from the free throw line. Utah is the only school in the Pac-12 that has had two freshmen hit the 20-point mark this season.
From the Line: After shooting only 57-percent from the free throw line against Oregon State, the Utes have shot 90-percent in back-to-back games, going 10-of-11 against USC (90.9) and 18-of-20 against UCLA (90.0). The Utes have shot 80+ percent from the charity stripe in nine times and ranks second in the Pac-12 and 14
thnationally through all games this season (.763).
Road Warrior: Freshman
Dre'Una Edwards has immediately stepped in and filled an important role in her first year with the Utes, scoring in double digits in 17 games this season. She is averaging 10.9 points per game when playing in the Huntsman Center, but 13.7 points per game when the Utes are on the road. In games not played in the Huntsman Center, she has scored in double-digits in seven. Utah is 5-2 on the road this season and 2-0 at neutral sites.
Bean Keeps Moving Up: Erika Bean has 127 assists through 23 games, giving her 499 in her career. With one more assist, she will become just the fourth player in program history to eclipse the 500-career assist mark (1: Shona Thorburn – 689, 2002-06; 2: Alli Bills – 612, 1994-98; 3: Janita Badon – 578, 2008-12). She currently ranks fourth all-time at Utah in career assists and has had 100 or more assists in three of her four seasons with the Utes. Bean has 54 career games with five or more assists and has led Utah in the category in 64 career games, including in the last four.
Huff on the Double: Megan Huff has notched a double-double in five straight games, averaging 11.8 rebounds and 21.6 points per game in that span. She has 14 total double-doubles this season which is tied for 13
thnationally and ranks second in the Pac-12. The Federal Way, Wash. native has 20 double-doubles since becoming a Ute and 24 in her career (five at Hawaii).
