NORMAN, Okla. –
Utah Golf's historic 2024-25 season continues to receive recognition, this time in the classroom with four Utes earning Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars status for Division I.
Sergio Jimenez,
Gabriel Palacios,
Brandon Robison, and
Braxton Watts were recognized by Cobalt Golf not only for their efforts on the golf course, but their efforts towards their education, and good standing in the community.
Eligible athletes for the award at a minimum needed to be in their sophomore year, participate in at least 50-percent of their team's competitive rounds, and have a stroke average under 76.0 while maintaining a cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2 or better. In addition, each winner needed to demonstrate high moral character and be in good standing at their school.
Palacios currently owns the Utes' lowest scoring average in a season at 70.2 with Jimenez hot on his heels in second with a stroke average this season of 70.7. Robison is sixth all-time at Utah with a score of 71.3, while Watts ended his career 20th in school history with a single-season stroke average of 72.5.
The quartet has also been responsible for some of Utah's most recent regular season tournament titles, owning four just this past season (
Palacios; the Goodwin & John Burns,
Robison; Arizona Thunderbirds Collegiate,
Jimenez; Palouse Collegiate), while Watts added a fifth from two seasons ago at the Goodwin and
qualified this past season to compete in the NCAA Championships as a single player.
Both Watts and Palacios were recognized as PING NCAA Division I All-American honorable mentions earlier this summer. Additionally, Palacios earned a spot on the
All-Big 12 Golf Team, and an opportunity to
compete at the Arnold Palmer Cup as the first Guatemalan and Ute representative.
Utah Golf is gearing up to start their 2025-26 campaign in a little over a month, starting with hosting their first tournament since 2016 on September 15-16 at the Wohali Golf Course.
